Trish Carroll is a Registered Psychologist and the Director and Founder of Elder Matters, a Brisbane-based private practice dedicated to providing care and support for the many and diverse challenges of ageing.

Trish is committed to a client-centred, collaborative and strengths-based approach to treatment, and works with a diverse range of clients to provide a safe and supportive space to discuss any concerns and/or difficulties.

Trish provides psychological support and interventions for older adults and their families in diverse circumstances related to the psychological challenges of ageing, including:

  • experience of health and capacity challenges;
  • transitioning to later stages of life and/or residential aged care;
  • grief, loss and/or bereavement;
  • feelings of loneliness and/or isolation;
  • loss of confidence, self-esteem and identity as independence diminishes;
  • symptoms of depression, anxiety, stress and trauma;
  • living with dementia and/or other neurodegenerative conditions (including younger onset);
  • experience of domestic violence, elder abuse and/or other trauma; and
  • the challenges of elder care and carer stress.

Trish understands that a diagnosis of chronic illness involves multiple losses, transitions and stressors in all dimensions of an older adult’s life, with significant impact on psychological wellbeing for older adults and their family/loved ones.  She provides psychological support and interventions for all members of a family impacted by these challenges and circumstances, and where appropriate can highlight strategies to focus on the essence of the individual, as opposed to the transformations which can occur when living with chronic illness, including dementia or another degenerative illness.

Complementing her experience as a Psychologist, Trish also has over a decade of experience as a tertiary qualified Counsellor. In this capacity, she founded Elder Matters and has provided counselling for clients affected by the many and diverse challenges of ageing. Trish has also provided Employee Assistance (staff counselling) for employees in a range of industries, professions, and occupations, including the aged care industry.
